I remember well that day. The woman was going to the market to sell her wood. She was carrying it with a canvas head band, as Sherpa usually do. I tried to lift the wood, but it was incredibly heavy. I tried to guess her age, but it was impossible. In the western world I would have thought was about 40 years old, but in Nepal, doing such a life, she was probably not older than 25. When I tried to take a picture of her, discretely, trying not to be seen, she discovered me, and started smiling with her friends, shyly...

Ricordo bene quel giorno. La donna nella foto andava al mercato a vendere della legna. La trasportava con una fascia di tela grezza sulla fronte, come fanno gli sherpa di solito. Provai a sollevare la legna, ma era incredibilmente pesante. Cercai di indovinare l'età della donna, ma era impossibile. Nel mondo occidentale, avrei supposto fosse una donna di circa 40 anni, ma in Nepal, con la vita che faceva, probabilmente non aveva più di 25 anni.
