When I traveled to Tibet for the first time, I had certain expectations. As many in the western culture, I expected Tibet to be transcendent, meta physic, almost abstract. In reality, my expectations clashed with an harsh land, rich in poverty, and quite earthly after all. Only in one picture, the one above, I was able to see the desolate altitude desert as I expected it to be: transcendent, metaphysic, composed as a Japanese print...

Quando ho viaggiato in Tibet per la prima volta, mi aspettavo certe cose. Come molti occidentali, mi aspettavo il Tibet fosse trascendente, metafisico, quasi astratto. Ma cio' che mi aspettavo si scontro' con la realta' di una terra dura, ricca di poverta', e in fin dei conti piuttosto materiale. Solo in una fotografia, quella qui sopra, sono riuscito a vedere il desolato altopiano desertico come aspettavo che fosse: trascendente, metafisico, una composizione equilibrata come quella di una stampa giapponese...
